“I tend to write more and more from a place of acceptance by knowing what I want to say. The how of it comes as I write, as I extrapolate meaning and even sense out of the senselessness of life at times - through placing characters in situations outside of my norm and watching them change and grow from their experiences. Life is all about characterization and perspective. Change the perspective and a whole new set of characterizations appear. I've begun to realize there is a process to writing and I am part of that process. So, I trust it more and more.

“I keep writing. I don't edit and I don't rewrite when I am in this internal place of flux lest I destroy the seed of something positive and good and perhaps perfect for whatever I'm working on. When experiencing this self loathing its far too easy to see what i've written as "junk". I may ultimately edit out the "junk" later on, but only when I am feeling positive about myself will I do that. When I am in that funk of non acceptance of myself, I write about it. It's a process very much like taking out the trash.”
“Lisa, you are right on as usual, as I do become obsessed with outcome, ergo overwhelmed. As well I've lived long enough to appreciate that life has peaks and valleys -- even the apostles had to come down from the mountaintop -- and that hibernation follows harvest which is in turn followed by growth.
I just keep writing in a notebook.
Helping others is and always has been an excellent starting point for the creative.”

“I finally had to get to a point where I told myself I was writing for me -- not for publication, therefore quit worrying whether it's perfect or not and just get it down.”
