What Writers Need
My experience with coaching writers has helped me understand what writers need. It's not just about getting published, finishing that dissertation or getting a script optioned. Writers need to understand what motivates them, what's unique about them and what they can contribute through their writing. They must learn to enjoy the process of reaching for a goal before the goal is attained.
The first book I read on creativity was Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way." Her book inspired me to learn more about the creative process and I read everything on writing and creativity that I could get my hands on. One of the many stand-out quotes in her book was Chekhov's, "If you want to work on your art, work on your life." This quote helped me understand the relationship between self-discovery and creativity.
What keeps many writers stuck is their difficulty tuning into who they are as writers. It's not until writers gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of their writer self that good writing truly begins. My goal for "Discover and Claim Your Identity as a Writer" is that each and every one of you comes away with the answers to these three core questions:
- "Who am I?"
- "What do I need to create in my life to be at my best?"
- "How do I begin to make a difference with my writing?"
Teleclass Goals
Here are our goals for the six week series:
- Understand and apply your strengths as a writer so that you are more satisfied with the results of your writing efforts.
- Understand and reflect on the reason(s) you choose to write so that you learn what sustains and motivates you when working on your writing project.
- Identify writing obstacles that get in your way so you learn what to let go of before tackling your writing project.
- Develop a writing ritual so that you have the structure to write consistently.
- Learn how to make a contribution to your readers so that you can understand your target audience.
- Claim your identity as a writer so that you can continue to move towards your writing goals with confidence.
Series Structure
In each of the six weeks, you will have:
